The best way to make the Bright Fretboard Mastery System second nature is to keep putting into action.
Below are playlists organized by key. So just hit play on one of the playlists below and start jamming along.
Many of the songs on this playlist are at a slow to moderate tempo to help with the learning process. But you’re also encouraged to slow down these songs whenever you need to (just click the settings wheel on the bottom of the video to adjust the speed).
Also, consider learning this system in 2 phases:
-
- Phase 1: Learn your way around the neck jamming in the keys of G and C. This way, you’ll be able to play in virtually any key with the use of a capo on frets 1-5 (G through C, C through F).
-
- Phase 2: Learn your way around the neck jamming in the other keys without the use of a capo (only re-tuning the 5th, where needed).
Try to make jamming with these tracks a regular part of your practice routine. The more you do it, the more you’ll want to keep doing it!
You’re encouraged to try to pick out the chord progressions by ear. But you will also find the chord progressions for these songs will appear underneath the video when you click on it (also note the chords are presented as their Nashville Numbers to help you get used to thinking this way!).

Which to buy a round
I wished I'd cashed my paycheck
Before I came to town

Found three twenties and a ten
It feels so good feelin' good agai
There was old man Perkins
Sittin' on his stool
Watchin' Butch and Jimmy John
Talkin' loud and playin' pool
The boys from Silver City

And saw you standin' on the stair
And when I caught your eye
I saw you break into a grin
It feels so good feelin' good again

Money would set me free
If I did murder that dear little girl
Whose name was Rose Connelly
Now he sits at his cabin door
Wipin' his tear stained eyes
Gazin' upon his only son
Up on the scaffold high
My race is run beneath the sun
The devil is waiting for me
For I did murder that dear little girl
Whose name was Rose Connelly

Ahh you’ve gone to the finest schools, alright Miss Lonely
But you know you only used to get juiced in it
Nobody’s ever taught you how to live out on the street
And now you’re gonna have to get used to it
You say you never compromise
With the mystery tramp, but now you realize
He’s not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And say do you want to make a deal?
How does it feel, how does it feel?
To be on your own, with no direction home
A complete unknown, like a rolling stone
Ah you never turned around to see the frowns
On the jugglers and the clowns when they all did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain’t no good
You shouldn’t let other people get your kicks for you
You used to ride on a chrome horse with your diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat
Ain’t it hard when you discovered that
He really wasn’t where it’s at
After he took from you everything he could steal
How does it feel, how does it feel?
To be on your own, with no direction home
Like a complete unknown, like a rolling stone
Ahh princess on a steeple and all the pretty people
They’re all drinking, thinking that they’ve got it made
Exchanging all precious gifts
But you better take your diamond ring, you better pawn it babe
You used to be so amused
At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used
Go to him he calls you, you can’t refuse
When you ain’t got nothing, you got nothing to lose
You’re invisible now, you’ve got no secrets to conceal
How does it feel, ah how does it feel?

V
For a life of sin, I have paid the cost
IV I
When I pass by, all the people say
V I
Just another guy on the lost highway
Just a deck of cards, and a jug of wine
And a woman's lies makes a life like mine
Oh, the day we met, I went astray
I started rolling down that lost highway
I was just a lad, nearly 22
Neither good nor bad, just a kid like you
And now I'm lost, too late to pray
Lord, I take a cost, oh the lost highway
Now boys don't start to ramblin' round
On this road of sin, are you sorrow-bound?
Take my advice or you'll curse the day
You started rollin' down that lost highway

IV I
You see, you can't please everyone
IV V I
So you got to please yourself
People came from miles around
Everyone was there
Yoko brought her walrus
There was magic in the air
And over in the corner
Much to my surprise
Mister Hughes hid in Dylan's shoes
Wearing his disguise
But it's all right now
I learned my lesson well
You see, you can't please everyone
So you got to please yourself
Lot-da-da
Lot-in-da-da-da
Played them all the old songs
I thought that's why they came
No one heard the music
Didn't look the same
I said hello to Mary Lou
She belongs to me
When I sang a song about a honky-tonk
It was time to leave
But it's all right now
I learned my lesson well
You see, you can't please everyone
So you got to please yourself
Lot-da-da
Lot-in-da-da-da
Someone opened up a closet door
And out stepped Johnny B Goode
Playing guitar like a-ringin' a bell
And lookin' like he should
Now if you gotta play at garden parties
I wish you a lotta luck
But if memories were all I sang
I'd rather drive a truck
And it's all right now
I learned my lesson well
See, you can't please everyone
So you got to please yourself
Lot-da-da (lot-da-da-da)
Lot-in-da-da-da
And it's all right now, yeah
I learned my lesson well
You see, you can't please everyone
So you got to please yourself

“Please Don’t Bury Me” (John Prine)
Chords You’ll Need: I II IV V
First Verse (no II chord):
I
Woke up this morning
IV
Put on my slippers
I V
Walked in the kitchen and died
I
And oh what a feeling!
IV
When my soul went through the ceiling
V
And on up into heaven I did ride
IV
When I got there they did say
I
John, it happened this way
You slipped upon the floor
V
And hit your head
I
And all the angels say
IV I
Just before you passed away
V
These were the very last words
I
That you said
IV
Please don't bury me
I
Down in the cold cold ground
No, I'd druther have 'em cut me up
V
And pass me all around
I
Throw my brain in a hurricane
IV I
And the blind can have my eyes
IV I
And the deaf can take both of my ears
V I IV I V I
If they don't mind the size
Other Verses:
I
Give my stomach to Milwaukee
IV I
If they run out of beer
Put my socks in a cedar box
II V
Just get 'em out of here
I
Venus de Milo can have my arms
IV I
Look out! I've got your nose
IV I
Sell my heart to the Junkman
V I
And give my love to Rose
But please don't bury me
Down in that cold, cold ground
No, I'd druther have 'em cut me up
And pass me all around
Throw my brain in a hurricane
And the blind can have my eyes
And the deaf can take both of my ears
If they don't mind the size
Give my feet to the footloose
Careless, fancy free
Give my knees to the needy
Don't pull that stuff on me
Hand me down my walking cane
It's a sin to tell a lie
Send my mouth way down south
And kiss my ass goodbye
But please don't bury me
Down in that cold cold ground
No, I'd druther have 'em cut me up
And pass me all around
Throw my brain in a hurricane
And the blind can have my eyes
And the deaf can take both of my ears
If they don't mind the size

I7
That baby of mine wouldn't let me in
IV I

V7
Move over little dog, the mean old dog is movin' in
She told me not to mess around
But I done let the deal go down
Move it on over, move it on over
Move over nice dog, a big fat dog is movin' in
She changed the lock on my back door
Now my key won't fit no more
Move it on over, move it on over
Move over nice dog, the mean old dog is movin' in
She threw me out just as pretty as she pleased
Pretty soon I'll be scratchin' fleas
Move it on over, slide it on over
Move over nice dog, a mean old dog is movin' in
Yeah, listen to me dog before you start to whine
That side yours and this side mine
So move it on over, rock it on over
Move over little dog, the big old dog is movin' in
Yeah, she changed the lock on my back door
Now my key won't fit no more
Move it on over, move it on over

Move over cool dog, the hot dog's movin' in
